Ahwehota, Windrunner, Whip Whirlwind, Lightning, Bluestreak, Quicksilver, Buckshot, The Smilin’ Speedster, The Zen Guru of Speed -- Max Mercury has lived many lives and collected many names.

In the mid-1800s, Max was a young messenger for a fort in the American West who discovered an ambush being set for the local Blackfoot tribe. The tribal shaman gifted the young Max with superhuman speed, and, using his new power, he was able to disarm both the Indians and the US Army detachment, preventing the massacre.

Unfortunately, everyone Max saved was later murdered by an embittered man, whose family Max was not able to save. In his grief over this, Max ran away, and ran and ran, and eventually encountered the Speed Force. Instead of entering it, and becoming one, he glanced away, and bounced off, which caused him to skip ahead in time.

Max has since used his knowledge of the Speed Force to travel through time again and again. In the 20th century, he had an affair with the wife of a friend, and his daughter, Helen, was conceived. Out of guilt over this affair, he ran into the Speed Force again, and bounced ahead in time. Currently, he lives in Manchester, Alabama, where he is being punished with the guardian/mentor/ "uncle" to Bart Allen (Impulse). Max is a not the most visible of heroes, preferring to keep a low profile.

Appearance: Max has grey hair and blue eyes, and is an older man, considered quite handsome by the ladies. He wears a blue and white spandex costume, with red goggles and a huge white collar.
